Advocating for Agriculture

Legislative and local government involvement is also a fundamental part of the Farm Bureau. The Farm Bureau organization is recognized as one of the most influential organizations in both Springfield and Washington D.C., and FB members regularly visit both capitals lobbying in support of key ag issues.

FB ACT: FB ACT (Farm Bureau Agricultural Contact Team) is a program helping you regain your influence in Washington, Springfield, and your local community. FB ACT is our way of putting you in instant contact with policymakers on priority issues. When you join FB ACT, you'll be called to act when necessary. You'll be asked to contact your elected officials or submit a comment info a federal docket on key ag issues. Your involvement in legislative and political activities will help to build your relationship with your elected officials and continue to keep agriculture prosperous in Illinois. Without your voice and your stories, our message can’t always reach lawmakers.  Join FB ACT by clicking here.

Adopt-a-Legislator: A very successful program to expand FB’s influence and impact is the Illinois Farm Bureau's  “Adopt-a-Legislator” program, where county Farm Bureaus ‘adopt’ an urban legislator from the Chicago area and develop a reciprocal relationship with that leader. The goal is to raise the legislator’s awareness and appreciation of ag issues while helping the county Farm Bureau gain insight into the legislator’s urban district and its unique characteristics.

Face to Face visits with elected officials:

Leader Tony McCombie visits Hunter Haven Dairy Farm to learn about the dairy industry.
Adopted Legislator, Representative Mary Gill visits Stephenson County.
Local Farm Bureau leaders, meet with Congressman Darin LaHood.
