Blackhawk Biofuels, LLC

Blackhawk Biofuels, LLC organized in 2005 with intentions to build a 30-million gallon per year biodiesel plant near Freeport IL. After extensive planning and a successful equity drive raising over $26 million, Blackhawk's lead lender chose to withdraw its financing offer.
The Blackhawk board of managers worked diligently to pursue all possible alternatives. In the end, a positive opportunity emerged in the form of a larger plant under construction that had encountered financing issues of its own.
In April 2008, Blackhawk Biofuels LLC announced that, through the coordinating efforts of its project partner Renewable Energy Group, Blackhawk would assume ownership and operation of a 45-million gallon per year biodiesel plant at Danville IL. Capabilities to use multiple feedstocks have been added to the plant, which is co-located adjacent to a Bunge soy crushing facility. The Blackhawk Biofuels LLC plant began producing biodiesel on December 11, 2008.
